WebRTC in Medtech: When 720p Is No Longer “Good Enough”
At MedConnect, we built HD video consultations on WebRTC for diagnostics, where image quality is critical. When the internet is unstable, adaptive bitrate kicks in, and TURN servers help get through NAT and firewalls.

At MedConnect, we built WebRTC-based HD video consultations for a use case where image quality is not a “nice-to-have” but part of the diagnosis. If a patient has unstable mobile internet, adaptive bitrate kicks in: the call doesn’t fall apart at the most important moment, and the video adjusts to the network in real time.
To make calls work through NAT and firewalls without magic or pain, we set up TURN servers. And then comes the interesting part: a doctor may miss a change in skin tone or a rash if the image gets blurry. That’s why we added face detection + quality boost — the system increases quality in diagnostically important areas.
In practice, it’s smart upscaling not for the wow effect, but for accuracy. Against the backdrop of the boom in AI video and real-time communication, this kind of stack is no longer hype, but a must-have. As they say, when the patient’s internet is hanging by a thread, engineering matters just as much as medicine.
