License Plate Validation Passed the Face Check
In PDP Mobile, we finished Russian license plate validation so it doesn’t break on reality: we added support for Cyrillic and Latin letters, 2- and 3-digit region codes, and different plate types.

In PDP Mobile, we finished Russian license plate validation so it doesn’t break on reality. We added support for Cyrillic and Latin letters: А=A, В=B, and other common cases where a plate is entered “however the keyboard happened to type it.” We also accounted for 2- and 3-digit region codes — because the country is big, and formats tend to come with surprises.
What we covered in terms of logic: — passenger cars — trucks — motorcycles — taxis
We also added a “RF / other” format for foreign plates. Without that, production always ends up with the classic question: “Why is everything valid except the guest’s car?”
And the cherry on top — favorites for quick repeat use. If an Ozon courier shows up every day, you can extend the pass with a single tap. Less routine, less manual input, fewer chances to hit a bug at the “mixed up O and 0” level.
Like all modern IT, we’re building not just a form, but good UX on top of complex domain logic.
