Features by building: when the app doesn’t pretend to be universal
In PDP Mobile, we made feature configuration at the building level: each property in a residential complex stores its own set of capabilities. If a new building doesn’t have video surveillance, the camera section is not shown to residents.

In PDP Mobile, we made feature configuration at the building level: each property in a residential complex stores its own set of capabilities — access control, intercom, video surveillance, calls.
The logic is simple, but very practical: if a new building doesn’t have video surveillance, the camera section is simply not shown to the resident. No “empty screens”, no greyed-out buttons, and no vibe of “this will be fixed in the next release” 😅
As a result, the app adapts to a specific building and gives the user only the relevant functionality. In practice, it’s the same feature flag, but tied not to an abstract segment, but to a real property.
Against the backdrop of the hyper-personalization trend in products, this is no longer a nice-to-have, but the baseline: less noise in the interface, fewer support questions, better UX.
