In PDP Mobile, we tackled a task that may not be the flashiest, but is very practical: storing and synchronizing readings for 14 types of meters. These include hot water, cold water, common-area services, electricity single-rate and three-rate, as well as meters for storage rooms, parking, and heating.
At its core, each reading is a time series: a date plus values for tariff zones. The most interesting case is three-rate metering: T1/T2/T3 = peak, shoulder, night. For residential buildings with electric stoves, this is not a feature for the sake of a feature, but real savings for residents — up to 30%.
The tricky part was carefully bringing different data models into a single sync flow. So it wouldn’t happen like in real life: the washing machine ran at night, and the readings somehow got “lost somewhere between the backend and the phone.” In the era of data-first and full automation, things like this are already table stakes.
